I support the right to freeedom, self-government and self-determination of the people of each country, within the frameworks of democracy and the universal human rights.

A few dictatorial autocracies, including Russia and P.R. China, are still denying each and every one of these rights to the people of their own and other countries.

Je suis Charlie

For freedom of expression and freedom of choice
For the right to publicly talk and write about anyone and anything
For the right to mock, draw and caricature anyone and anything - no exception
For the right to publicly disagree with anyone
For the right to publicly reject any accepted truth, belief, faith and superstition
For the right to laugh at anyone who demands to be taken seriously
For the right to ridicule anyone who demands respect through fear and violence
For the right to be the square peg in a round hole
For the right to publicly mock any doctrine, religion and belief

Against stupid bullies, brainless thugs and arrogant bigots of whatever color and faith

"If people, including Muslims, wish to be part of a civilized society, they must accept the fact that civilized societies have a right to reject their beliefs, to debate them, and to mock them."

-- Marc J. Randazza on CNN

"If you don't like freedom, for heaven's sake pack your bags and leave."
"This is stupid, this so senseless. Be gone from the Netherlands if you cannot find your place here."

-- Ahmed Aboutaleb, Mayor of Rotterdam and Muslim

"Let's honor Salman Rushdie by recommitting to free expression."

-- Rafia Zakaria on CNN

Why do I write on this page about the November 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, but not about the many other senseless attacks before and after these? For example, on April 7, 2017, another deadly terrorist attack took place in Stockholm, in places where I used to pass several times a week. My wife and elder daughter were planning to meet there at about the time of the attack, but called off the meeting hours before. Only by chance I and my family were not there at the time.

The 2015 Paris attack is particularly significant, because it was an attack on freedom of expression (besides being, like many others, a cowardly attack on randomly chosen victims who simply happened to be there and had no way to defend themselves).

To me, freedom of expression remains a fundamental right, without which life would not have much meaning except as a struggle to regain such right. This right needs to be continuously defended, and continuously exercised. It cannot be allowed to degrade into an abstract formulation without real meaning, where people will avoid speaking out their minds in order "not to get into trouble", "not to offend the sensitivities of others", or "to avoid unnecessary antagonism".

“Throughout time the corrupt have risen to power. Throughout time they have manipulated the Truth in order to stay in power, even when at the cost of Life. The greatest weapon of the corrupt has always been ignorance. But Truth yearns to be free and it always finds a champion…”
--Steve Karmazenuk, The Unearthing

as part of the essential human right of free speech.
Multiple governments still deny these rights to a large part of mankind.
